Walking tour with “focaccia” aperitif in the heart of Genova

Discover one of the biggest and best preserved historical cities of Europe on foot under the guidance of a local expert. Meeting with the English-speaking tour guide in De Ferrari square and beginning of the walking tour that will give you an overview of Genova’s rich history and fascinating atmosphere. You will admire San Lorenzo cathedral with its black and white façade, the “Caruggi”, San Donato Church, the ancient “Rolli” Palaces (UNESCO Heritage) of the Genovesi noble families. During the tour we will stop for a “focaccia” aperitif in a typical café.

Monday, 19th September
Genova from the sea

Guide and photographer will take you to discover Genova from a very unusual perspective: from the sea. You will see the seafront Corso Italia, the old fishermen harbour in Boccadasse, the famous Lantern – symbol of the city. The architecture, history, legends and curiosity will mix to develop an image-based story. How is Genova from the sea? What mysteries and stories are related to the waters adjacent to the port? A fun way to also learn how to take great pictures on the distance and on the move.
Additionally the photographer will take you for a walk in Porto Antico area to reveal the architecture of Renzo Piano, visiting the Falcone Borsellino Quay, Isola delle Chiatte and BioSfera: the scenic glass and steel structure where you will discover the tropical environment.
Walking inside the Renzo Piano‘s “sphere” you will encounter cocoa and vanilla plants, banana trees and giant ferns, but especially many animals like the Scarlet Ibis, turtles and butterflies and Dust, a pink feathered parrot coming from the Maluku Islands.

Tuesday, 20th September
A guided tour From Camogli to Portofino and the San Fruttuoso Abbey, with private boat trip

Transfer by private bus to Camogli and departure by private boat to Portofino. Portofino is an Italian fishing village and vacation resort, famous for its picturesque harbour and historical association with celebrity and artistic visitors. Visit of the pretty village and stop in local shops. Then leave by private boat to San Fruttuoso and visit the local abbey – a property of the FAI (Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano, Italian Fund for the Environment). Come and learn more about local culture and have a taste of typical fish cuisine at a traditional restaurant. Return to Camogli by boat and free time to visit the typical Ligurian Village, then private bus to Genova.

This tour presents a series of elegant decorated and furnished rooms in the eighteenth century by the Durazzo family and in the nineteenth century by the Savoy. From the Hall of Mirrors to the Sala Valerio Castello, from the Chapel Gallery to the Throne Hall to the ballroom. A path through the scenic terraces and garden, rich in vegetation, with exotic plants and with a splendid risseu visible in the inner courtyard.

Terms and Conditions

Prices are per person.
Each private tour has a minimum booking requirement.
Bookings are subject to acceptance on a first-come-first-served basis.
All tour prices include English-speaking guide service throughout.
Final tour arrangements could change due to weather conditions and to the final number of participants, which may involve slight changes in the programme.
After 31st August participants will receive a detailed confirmation (pick-up point and time).
Invoices will be issued by AIM Travel (Group Company of IUMI 2016 Conference Secretariat).

Cancellation policy
No charge if cancellation is received within and on 12th August; 50% penalty if cancellation is received within and on 31st August; no refund for cancellation received after 31st August.
In the case of no-show, payment is non-refundable.
All cancellations must be made in writing to the Conference Secretariat and the refund will be made after the Conference.

Cancellation of a tour by the Conference Secretariat
If the minimum quotas are not met, the tour will be cancelled and full refunds will be provided.
In the event of cancellation of tours, the only liability of the Conference Secretariat is to refund the tour fees paid. Exception: for the full day tour on Tuesday an alternative tour will be guaranteed.

Participants are advised to arrange personal travel insurance to cover loss incurred in case of cancellation, medical expenses and damage to or loss of personal effects. The Conference Secretariat will accept no liability for personal injuries or for loss or damage to property belonging to the participants during the organised tours.
